American Cancer Society invites residents to go jump in the lake


LAKE MILTON — The American Cancer Society has planned a “BRR For a Cure Polar Bear Plunge” for March 6 at Craig Beach as a fundraising activity. People of all ages are invited to participate in the inaugural event and take a dip in the ice cold water to help in the fight against cancer.

Registration will be from 12:30 to 1:40 p.m., and the plunge is scheduled for 2. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and other warm refreshments will be available for a minimal donation.

There will be a minimum donation of $25 for those taking part. Anyone raising $100 or more will receive a T-shirt‚à´.

BRR For a Cure Plunge packets are available at the cancer society office, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The packets include a waiver form, a contribution envelope, hints about the plunge, what to do and what not to do, a donation request letter, information on how to raise funds, a pledge form, personal goal setting information and donor receipts.

The event is being sponsored by Lake Milton and Milton Township Fire Department. Media partners, radio stations K-105 FM and Hot-101 FM, are promoting the fundraiser.

Volunteer committee members helping to organize the event are Jayne Bezeredi, Jerry Branch, Linda Donnalley, Tony Garglione, Dave Giboney, Cathy Maltonic, Gina Page and Mary Ellen Sassy.
