Jeans collection
Jeans collection
STRUTHERS — The Struthers High School National Honor Society is helping people in need by collecting jeans.
The society is participating in the collection with Aeropostale stores, which want to send 200,000 jeans to Haiti and 200,000 jeans to rescue missions in the United States.
The society will have three drop-off sites Friday in the main lobby of each Struthers school building. Because it is the district’s parent-teacher conference night, the collection runs from 1:30 to 8 p.m.
Animal-cruelty case
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Shenango Township police are investigating an animal-cruelty case at a house on Ellwood Road.
Police said they learned the residents hadn’t been home for at least four days, leaving two dogs, two cats and two turtles to fend for themselves.
The animals were taken away Sunday, and charges are pending.
Police said a Rottweiler was in a pen outside with no food or water, and the snow was limiting its movements.
A great Dane and the cats were inside the house, which was in deplorable condition with animal feces throughout, police said.
Police said there was no food or water available to the animals, and they had torn open bags of trash looking for food.
