Woman charged in stabbing to undergo second evaluation

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — The judge presiding over felonious assault, attempted murder and kidnapping charges against a Leavittsburg woman has ordered a second evaluation to determine whether she’s competent to stand trial.

Crystal Goodrich, 29, is charged in the stabbing of her grandmother last June.

Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court already received results of one evaluation to determine whether Goodrich is able to assist in her defense, and he also received the results of an evaluation of whether Goodrich was insane at the time of the reported attack.

Judge Kontos said the results of those evaluations are not open to the public.

Goodrich is being held in the Trumbull County jail.

Newton Falls police said Goodrich held her 81-year-old grandmother, Ruth V. Jenkins, at knifepoint for about six hours June 22 in Jenkins’ Newton Falls apartment, then stabbed Jenkins twice in the chest and once in the arm. Jenkins has since recovered and appeared at a luncheon last week to thank the police officers who came to her rescue.
