Matt Howard leads Butler over Loyola

INDIANAPOLIS — Matt Howard scored 20 points to lead No. 18 Butler past Loyola of Chicago 62-47 on Monday night for the Bulldogs’ 13th straight win as they clinched at least a share of their fourth straight Horizon League regular season title.

Willie Veasley added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs (21-4, 14-0), who matched the second-longest winning streak in school history.

Walt Gibler and Geoff McCammon each scored nine points for the Ramblers (13-11, 4-10), who have lost six of their past seven games against Butler.

Despite shooting 22 percent from the field in the first half, the Bulldogs trailed only 26-24 at halftime. Butler started the game shooting 2 of 18 as the Ramblers took a 15-6 lead nine minutes in.

Valparaiso 83, UIC 82

VALAPARAISO, Ind. — Brandon Wood and Ryan Broekhoff each scored 18 points as Valparaiso edged UIC.

Brandon McPherson added 15 points for the Crusaders (13-13, 8-6 Horizon), who have won seven of their last nine games.

Jeremy Buttell had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Flames (6-18, 2-12), who scored a season high but still lost for the 10th time in 11 games. Robo Kreps added 17 points.

Detroit 92, Chicago State 72

DETROIT — Thomas Kennedy and Lamar Lee each scored 15 points and Detroit built a big lead early.

Xavier Keeling added 13 points and Chase Simon 12 for the Titans (15-10), who shot 57.9 percent in ending a two-game losing streak.

Carl Montgomery scored 20 points and Kabangu Tshinga Kasamba had 18 for the Cougars (7-18).

Detroit used a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 38-20 with 7:11 remaining the first half and led by double digits the rest of the game. The Titans went into halftime up 54-33.
