YOUNGSTOWN — The George Gershwin and Frank Sinatra songbooks will be featured during the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra’s “Symphonic Valentine” concert Saturday, with soprano Anne Runolfsson and the Joe Augustine Trio.
Runolfsson has enjoyed a distinguished career not only in theater but as a recording artist, cabaret singer and concert vocalist.
She starred on Broadway in the role of Carlotta in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera.” Before that, she was a standby for Julie Andrews in “Victor Victoria,” a role she performed more than 120 times on Broadway. She went on to perform the role in the national tour.
Runolfsson’s other Broadway and national tour credits include “Les Miserables,” “Cyrano-The Musical,” “The Secret Garden” and “Aspects of Love.”
Augustine, a jazz pianist and recording artist from Youngstown, has honed his accessible and inventive musical style over his career. He has appeared in a variety of musical settings from jazz clubs to symphony halls and was the featured artist with the YSO for its Home for the Holidays recording.
Augustine serves as Artist in Residence in the Jazz Studies Program at the University of Akron School of Music and is a frequent lecturer at colleges and universities.
