Super Bowl XLIV (6:28 p.m. kickoff, CBS): Are you ready for some football? About a gazillion people are expected to watch the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints duke it out on America’s annual holiday of gridiron gluttony. And even if you don’t have your head in the game, there’s lots to love, including all those wacky commercials and a halftime extravaganza, in which aging members of The Who desperately hope their arthritis doesn’t flare up. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms provide the play-by-play, but not before many mind-numbing hours of pre-game monotony.
“Puppy Bowl VI” (3 p.m., with several re-airings, Animal Planet): An alternative to the big game? How about “Puppy Bowl VI”? Basically, it’s just a bunch of little canines frolicking in a stadium-shaped pen and doing really cute canine stuff. No word on whether the players are potty-trained.
