On-the-go Clossin slows down for a 300
In making a few brief cellphone calls to Stephanie Clossin, one finds out that she doesn’t stay in one place.
Call No. 1 was accompanied by the loud sound of pins crashing in the background as Clossin prepared for her Matchplay Ladies session at Amron Lanes.
Call No. 2 the following night was drowned out by highly amplified public address announcements during a hockey game. Despite the damage to my highly sensitive ears, I was able to discern that Clossin rolled her first 300 on Jan. 21.
Using a Brunswick Intense Inferno, Clossin’s 300 was her fourth game of the evening, following a three-game set of 606.
Even during her bowling, Clossin didn’t stay in one place: she moved after two games on lanes 9-10 to the next set of lanes (11-12) for the final two games.
“I felt comfortable,” Clossin said of the first three games setting up the 300. “But I eventually moved one-and-a-half boards right and started throwing pocket strikes.”
Clossin grew up in Newton Falls where she bowled as a youth at Newton Falls Lanes. From 1992-99 she didn’t bowl, then the right-hander got into an adult league and has been bowling for 10 years straight.
She returned by starting in Thursday Night Gadabouts at Bell-Wick.
The 1993 graduate of Liberty High who works at Classic Bakery and Valley Containers was averaging 194.
Her previous high single was 279 last year, also at Amron.
Clossin also bowls with her husband at Wedgewood.
Bob Eisenbraun Jr’s 296-838 led Belchyk/Action Plumbing Classic at Holiday, while Russ Slagle’s 800 was not far behind.
John Lucansky and Kevin Welsh had 300s in Wednesday Men at Holiday on Jan. 27 with Lucansky’s 776 leading the way.
Ron Jones rolled 300-805 to lead Variety Mixed at Holiday during week 20, Steve Senvisky’s 300-748 led Thursday Senior Men at Wedgewood on Jan. 21 and George Thomas also rolled 300 in Bob’s Bail Bonding at Wedgewood on Jan. 18. Thomas’ set was 677, same as Rick Burley’s, while Justin Nelms’ 698 led all.
In Zarbana Industries at Camelot, Ameristate Bancorp won the second third with Russ Anania, Joe Cullen Jr., Joe Cullen Sr., Dino Balkan, Dave Ross and Bob Diamond.
Jack’s Auto Sales won the third quarter in Armando Saab Classic at West Side. Team members are: Jack Ziegler, Steve Paris, Tom Bobonick, John Mshar Sr., John Mshar Jr. and Eric Sheffield.
Flowers and Alternatives was the second third champion of C-G Pro Shop/Wedgewood Ladies Trio with Lisa Pecorelli, Paula Pecorelli and Teri Haefke.
Top Guns and Muscle Records finished a point apart — 52-51 — as the second third winner and runner-up in Wednesday Night Men at McKinley.
