HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley, a United Way Agency, is the local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages and abilities in the Mahoning Valley located at Youngstown State University, second floor of the Williamson School of Business in the Center for Non-profit Excellence and the main office, 5500 Market St., Suite 106, Boardman. Angels of Easter Seals American Girl Fashion Show: Female volunteers are needed to assist in preparing models to walk the runway March 13 and 14 at Mr. Anthony’s is Boardman. Junior Achievement in a Day: Junior Achievement is looking for 10 volunteers to present JA in a Day to fifth- and sixth-grade students at Boardman Center Middle School from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Junior Achievement provides lesson plans, program materials and training — one hour — for all volunteers. For more information or to get involved today, call (330) 539-5268.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program facilitators: If you are 55 or older and have a chronic illness or would like to help others learn to manage their chronic diseases, such as diabetes, contact HOVN to learn about training opportunities available through RSVP and the District 11 Area Agency on Aging. Girl Scout Troop leader: The Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio are searching for a volunteer troop leader to work with a newly formed troop of girls at Eagle Heights Academy in Youngstown. The group meets one day a week from 5:20 to 6:10 p.m. The commitment will run through May. For a detailed position description, contact Corrie at HOVN.

Social Butterflies wanted: HOVN is searching for some folks to travel around our community and collect stories from community volunteers. This opportunity is flexible and can be done around your schedule. Our social-butterfly team will schedule appointments with local volunteers, sit down and record volunteer stories and submit stories to HOVN for our Web site, e-newsletter and national reports. Summer of Service adult team leaders: This summer, HOVN will offer its second annual Summer of Service, a new concept in youth service that engages teens from Mahoning and Trumbull counties in weeklong, team-based service projects. If you are 21 or older and have some experience working with young people or leading a team, HOVN needs you. Adult team leaders will coordinate and work alongside a group of eight to 10 Youth Volunteer Corps students as they work on a high-impact service project at a local nonprofit organization. This is a great opportunity for parents, coaches, retirees and college students. All team leaders will receive appropriate orientation, training and materials. Contact Corrie at (330) 782-5877.

Youngstown Office on Minority Health Advisory Council: If you would like to help create a plan to eliminate health disparities in our community, consider membership on the Youngstown Office of Minority Health Advisory Council. Council members will work with YOMH to better meet the needs of underserved and under-represented populations.
