BIG TEN \ Saturday’s games
No. 16 Wisconsin 62, Michigan 44
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jason Bohannon heaved up a 35-foot shot just before the halftime buzzer, then pounded his fist as it went through cleanly.
It was that kind of day for Wisconsin. Bohannon scored 18 points to lead the hot-shooting Badgers over Michigan Saturday.
DeShawn Sims led the Wolverines with 18 points. The Wolverines, who expected before the season to make a run at a second straight NCAA tournament appearance, are 1-5 since upsetting Connecticut on Jan. 17.
Minnesota 66, Penn State 64
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Lawrence Westbrook’s long jumper from just inside the 3-point arc in the left corner gave the Golden Gophers a win to cap a frantic final minute at the Jordan Center. It was another disheartening ending for Penn State (8-15, 0-11) after having erased a five-point deficit with 46 seconds left. The Nittany Lions are off to the school’s worst start in league play, and are two losses shy of its longest losing streak in coach Ed DeChellis’ seven seasons on the bench. Talor Battle’s layup with 9 seconds left after a scramble for a loose ball tied the game, sending the Jordan Center crowd into hysterics. Minnesota had two timeouts but opted to just inbound the ball after the shot so Penn State couldn’t set up its defense. With the loud crowd on their feet, Westbrook took a pass in the left corner, then took a step back to get a little space from defender Chris Babb to take his shot.
