Town One discusses Poland beautification

A new monument may be on its way to Poland Township, thanks to Town One Streetscapes, Inc. and the Polish Arts Society.

Town One is a not-for-profit corporation started in 1997 and has a mission to assist Poland Township and the Village of Poland with improving the main roads with sidewalks and trees.

The group was contacted by the Polish Arts Society about relocating a World War I and II monument to Polish veterans from Youngstown to Poland. Research on possible locations for this monument is continuing and Town One will work with the Polish Arts Society to finalize a spot soon.

Responses to a December 2009 member mailing were noted during Town One’s January meeting and the group went over the financial report. Members discussed final estimates from Create-A-Scape to landscape three of the Township and Village boundary signs.

The group was told by the Mahoning County Green Team that it will not make any recycling grants in 2010 due to budget constraints.

In other news, the Village of Poland Forest Board is willing to accept the donation of the Mitchell property which runs along Yellow Creek on Water Street. The Mitchell property would be another wooded area for walking.

Town One Streetscapes, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation under Section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Current officers are Larry Warren, president; Jeff McCreery, vice president; and John Scotford, Jr., secretary/treasurer.
