The Vindicator’s Religion page will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. Other information on Lenten programs also should be submitted.

Flame Fellowship
BOARDMAN —Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship, an interdenominational ministry, will meet Feb. 15 at the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park. Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the ministry at 7. Guest speaker will be Nisha Rafigue Verdinek.
Treehouse program
BOARDMAN — Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, is sponsoring Treehouse, a midweek program designed to help children grow in Christ. Crafts and projects are designed to reinforce weekly lessons.
Sessions are planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 17-March 31. The Bible program is for preschoolers to fifth-graders. The cost is $10 per child. Call (330) 758-4513 for more information.
Rev. Brienz’s duties
YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Edward Brienz, associate pastor at St. Columba Cathedral, has been appointed to an additional position as director of the Propagation of the Faith and Missions Office for the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, effective Feb. 2.
As director, Father Brienz will work with pastors, principals and diocesan staff on the mission cooperative plan, mission Sunday appeal, Holy Childhood Association and other projects.
He will be responsible for education in schools and parishes of the diocese concerning the mission of the Catholic Church.
Father Brienz was ordained May 25, 1996, after completing seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He served as associate pastor at St. Mary Church in Massillon, St. Joseph Church in Austintown and St. Joan of Arc Church in Canton.
Father Brienz served as administrator at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, St. John the Baptist Church in Campbell and St. Patrick Church in Leetonia.
He also served as chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and New Orleans disaster liaison of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown.
Woman to Woman
COLUMBIANA — Leon Forte, senior pastor of Grace Christian Center in Athens, Ohio, will speak during the monthly Reaching Out Woman to Woman brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Dutch Village Inn. The brunch costs $15; reservations can be made by calling (330) 457-1428.
At Abundant Life
NEW WATERFORD — Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, has resumed its winter/spring slate of Wednesday night classes.
They include: S.H.A.P.E., which deals with spiritual gifts and temperaments and taught by Pastor Mark Plegge; Fighting the Flesh, an original class written and taught by Justin Daubenmire; “Just as you Are: Taking off the Mask” taught by Cathy Plegge and Corina Wellman; open Bible study taught by Gary Sloan and Art Toot; youth class taught by Josh Graham; and Kids for Christ for 4- to 12-year-olds and directed by Pastor Jeff Schoch.
Classes are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will continue weekly through April.
Child care is provided for those younger than 4.

Valentine concert

Interfaith tea
YOUNGSTOWN — An interfaith tea is planned at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St., sponsored by Temple El Emeth, Congregation Ohev Tzedek and Children of Israel.
Rabbi Franklin W. Muller and the Kolot Rinah: Joyous Voices of Song will perform.

Polka Mass
YOUNGSTOWN — Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church, 421 Covington St., will have a polka Mass at 4 p.m. Feb. 13, the eve of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Day and Valentine’s Day.
A stuffed-cabbage dinner will follow; cost is $8.
Those attending who donate a canned good or paper product to the Deacon’s Cupboard will get a red, white and blue Croatian ribbon. Donations will benefit the Dorothy Day House on Belmont Avenue.
The John Lapinski Orchestra will play for the Mass and social from 5 to 7 p.m.
A free-will offering will be taken at the social time. Proceeds will help the parish prepare for the centennial celebration in 2011.

Concert at church
NEW MIDDLETOWN — The wind ensemble of Roberts Wesleyan College will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Free Methodist Community Church, 9900 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road.
New Bethel meeting
YOUNGSTOWN — New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will have the 37th annual meeting and dinner at noon Feb. 14 at the church.

At its December meeting, the church adopted its 2010 budget of $694,496.

Boy Scout Sunday
CANFIELD — Boy Scout Troop 25 and their families and the congregation of Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., will observe Boy Scout Sunday at the service at 10:15 a.m. this weekend.
The 100th anniversary of Scouting is being marked.
The troop will serve a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in fellowship hall.
The message will be delivered by Ron Ludwig, a 1985 Eagle Scout of the troop. Troop 25 has had some 160 members earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest in Scouting. The troop was established in 1926 at the church.
