Students at St. Christine School enjoyed a fun-filled day out of the classroom for an Activities Day in honor of Catholic Schools Week Wednesday.

All classes took field trips for Activities Day — kindergarten through third grades spent the morning at Austintown Bounce, while the fourth through seventh grades went to Camelot Lanes for a day of bowling.

The whole school was rewarded with ice cream treats from Dairy Queen at the end of the day.

“One of the days of the week that we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, we have an appreciation day for the students,” Amy Savich, a kindergarten teacher, said. “We want to appreciate them for choosing our school and for all of the hard work that they do.”

Other fun Catholic Schools Week events included an assembly featuring the Dazzling Mills Family, an acrobatic troupe, on Thursday.

The school also celebrated a spirit day on Friday. Students dressed up in school colors for a pep rally hosted by the cheerleading team.

St. Christine School began its Catholic Schools Week events with a mass on Monday.

Other events included the annual science fair on Tuesday and an open house for prospective families on Wednesday night.

Catholic Schools Week, which took place from Jan. 31-Feb. 6, is a national celebration of Catholic elementary and secondary schools. The week honors the contributions that Catholic schools make not only to academic learning, but also to moral, spiritual and social education.

This year’s theme was “Dividends for Life,” and focused on the long-term benefits of Catholic education.
