Wrestling league meet moved to Fitch
The Eastern Ohio Wrestling League tournament has been moved to Austintown Fitch today at 10 a.m. The event was originally scheduled to be held at Hubbard.
Two wrestlers go undefeated
The Boardman JV Wrestling Tournament was held Saturday and 13 Boardman wrestlers competed.
Carlo DeAsentis (152) and Shawn Haynes (160) both went undefeated and took home championships. Finishing runner-up for the Spartans were Alex Rich (103), Tom Moran (145) and Pedro Sanchez (171).
Third place honors were earned by Matt Inghram (135) and Andy Zack (145). Other Spartan wrestlers that participated were Kyle Kondas (130), Corey Breckner (135), John Dubiel (160), Scott Glenn (189), Mike Caraballo (215) and Joe Cordova (215).
The Spartans close out their season at the EOWL JV Tournament at Pymatuning Valley on Saturday.
Spartans suffer loss
The Boardman boys varsity basketball team lost to Cardinal Mooney 54-52 Jan. 26 in overtime.
Dave Dibernardi led the team in scoring with 16 points. J.T. Moore added 11 points and Dayne Hammond had eight.
Moore also had nine rebounds and three assists. Hammond pulled down seven rebounds, while Trae Robinson had five assists.
Glenwood wrestlers third at Spartan Duals
The Boardman Glenwood wrestling team added three more wins on its way to a third-place finish at the Spartan Duals Jan. 30, hosted by Boardman Center. Glenwood lost to Poland and tournament-champion Girard, but defeated South Range 52-38 and Liberty 60-24. Glenwood locked up third place with a 58-27 victory over Center.
Boys varsity basketball falls against Hoover
The Boardman Boys Varsity basketball team suffered a loss to North Canton Jan.29. The team trailed each quarter in the 36-55 game.
J.T. Moore scored nine points and had one steal and six rebounds. Dave Dibernardi and Kevin Johnson each scored seven points. Trae Robinson offered two assists and grabbed four rebounds.
Girls varsity basketball wins in North Canton
The Boardman girls varsity basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Jan. 30 in a 63-41 win against Hoover.
Darryce Moore led the team with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Monica Touvelle scored 16 points, Brooke Meenachan 11 points and Kayleigh Lipke had 10 points. Doriyon Glass nabbed nine rebounds and had six assists.
Boardman bowlers second at tournament
The Boardman varsity bowling teams each competed in the Main Event Team Championships Jan. 24 in Kent, with the girls team winning the event and the boys taking fifth.
Ciarra Moran was the top female bowler at the tournament with a 672 series. The girls team won the competition with a team total of 3,859.
Troy Wilson had the high game of the day with a 286 to lead the boys to a fifth-place effort and 4,017 pins.
Boardman High finished second overall, behind Stow-Monroe Falls, combining the boys and girls scores from each school.
