Middle school crowns spelling bee champion

Classroom spelling bee champions at Austintown Middle School faced off in the schoolwide competition on Jan. 21. Forty-two students competed in the annual spelling tournament.

Seventh-grader Marina Pavlichich was named grand champion after beating out the competition in just five rounds. Pavilichich was also the seventh-grade champion. Maia Totterdale, the sixth-grade champion, was recognized as the runnerup in the competition.

Raven Lester, who finished in the fourth round, was named the eighth-grade champion.

Roger Day, the sixth-grade principal, awarded the champions at the end of the competition. The students will receive their tropies at the honors assemblies, which take place in June.
