Ohio college students collect soccer balls for Haiti children
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Some Ohio college students collecting soccer balls for young Haitian earthquake victims say the response has been so good they’re moving the goal line.
The senior soccer players from Baldwin-Wallace College in suburban Cleveland say they launched their drive to provide children in Haiti with something to take their minds off the misery.
Russ Mika says he and his teammates know personally that soccer can be a powerful outlet.
The students placed a container outside the home they share with a sign that read: “Soccer Balls 4 Haiti — Thank You.” They had hoped to collect 50 soccer balls but now have more than 100 and have decided to shoot for 250.
An anonymous sponsor will take care of delivering the balls to Haiti.
