Butler wins 11th in a row


INDIANAPOLIS — Gordon Hayward had 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 23 Butler to its 11th straight win, 63-53, over Detroit on Thursday night.

Matt Howard finished with 11 points and Ronald Nored scored nine for the Bulldogs (19-4, 12-0 Horizon League), whose last loss came to UAB on Dec. 22. Butler’s winning streak matches the fourth longest in program history.

Chase Simon had 15 points and Thomas Kennedy scored 12 for the Titans (14-9, 7-5), who dropped their eighth straight game to Butler. Detroit was trying to beat a ranked team on the road for the first time since Feb. 1979.

Cleveland State 74, UIC 63

CHICAGO — Trevon Harmon put in 17 points and led four Cleveland State players in double-digit scoring.

The Vikings (11-12, 7-4 Horizon) led the entire game, going into halftime up 44-29 and never looking back. It was their fourth straight win.

Norris Cole grabbed a double-double by scoring 13 points and making 10 assists. D’Aundray Brown (Ursuline) finished with 15 points while Jeremy Montgomery added 13.

Jeremy Buttell and Zavion Neely led the Flames (5-17, 1-11) with 17 points each. Buttell also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Wright State 75, Valparaiso 71

VALPARAISO, Ind. — N’Gai Evans scored 18 points as Wright State held on to defeat Valparaiso.

Vaughn Duggins scored 17 points and Todd Brown added 12 for the Raiders (15-8, 8-4 Horizon).

Wright State shot 48 percent for the game and built a 15-point lead late in the first half, leading 31-21 at the break. Valparaiso (11-13, 6-6) briefly led midway through the second half before Wright State reestablished control.

Brandon Wood led the Crusaders with 18 points. Brandon McPherson scored 17 and Cory Johnson 16, and Ryan Broekhoff grabbed 13 rebounds.
