UPDATE: Mark Aaron Brown execution expected at 10:20 a.m.
Vindicator correspondent Marc Kovac is in Lucasville at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility to witness the execution of Mark Aaron Brown.
"Word (has been) given to move forward with execution. Looks like we're about an hour out, 10:20 a.m." Kovac reported via Twitter. "Seven members of victim's family on site now; three to witness, including one of his sons, a brother and a sister."
Brown was convicted in the 1994 shooting deaths of Isam Salman and Hayder Al-Turk at the Midway Market in Youngstown. He has continued to say he does not remember killing Salman, whose murder prompted the death sentence.
He admitted shooting Al-Turk and was sentenced to life in prison.
New Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Director Ernie L. Moore at the scene, Kovac reports. He has witnessed seven executions, this is his first as director.
Executions rarely occur at the precise hour, with this one originally set for 10 a.m.
"We're going to take our time and do this thing right," Moore told Kovac.
Kovac reports that witness are expecting to head to the death chamber after 10 a.m.
