Teamsters officer indicted in embezzlement

STAFF REPORT

CLEVELAND — A federal grand jury here has indicted a Youngstown man on charges of union embezzlement and making a false statement to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The indictment says that between Feb. 9, 2003, and March 1, 2006, Jeffrey J. Kenney embezzled $14,388 from Local 205-C of the Graphic Communications Conference in Youngstown, where he was secretary-treasurer.

The local was part of the Graphic Communications International Union, which merged with the Teamsters Union in January 2005. The local represented employees of newspaper and commercial or specialty printing businesses in the New Castle, Pa., and Youngstown areas, the U.S. attorney said Tuesday.

Kenney is charged with filing a false annual report with the Labor Department for 2004, on which he reported he received disbursements of $3,499, when he actually received $9,253.

A woman who answered the telephone Wednesday at the Teamster hall in Youngstown said nobody there would comment.
