Saturday meeting will explain need for Loweville tax increase

LOWELLVILLE — Village officials are ready to ask residents for an increase in the village income tax.

A meeting is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the village hall in the upstairs auditorium to explain why, said Mayor Jim Iudiciani.

The village’s 1.5 percent tax has been the same since 1976, Iudiciani said. The village council is considering asking voters for a 1⁄2 percent increase to 2 percent in May, he said. If passed, it would be effective in January 2011.
