Ex-Girard councilman files to run against Tim Ryan for Congress

WARREN — Ex-Girard Councilman Dan Moadus filed to become the first Democrat to challenge U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, since the congressman was elected in 2002.

While he’s running as a Democrat, Moadus harshly criticized the current Democratic leadership in Congress saying it’s lost touch with citizens.

“Someone has to go [to Washington, D.C.] and bring them back to the center,” Moadus said today after filing his nominating petitions for the 17th District seat with the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

Feb. 18 is the filing deadline for candidates who want to run in the May primary.

Also, M.E. “Bing” Henderson of Tallmadge filed his petitions to run in the Republican primary for the congressional seat.
