‘Dora,’ ‘Backyardigans’ to visit Covelli Centre
YOUNGSTOWN — “Storytime Live!” is coming to Youngstown’s Covelli Centre at 6:30 p.m. April 20.
It’s a theatrical tour featuring characters from four of the top-rated preschool shows on television today: “Dora the Explorer,” “The Backyardigans,” “The Wonder Pets!” and “Ni Hao, Kai-lan.” Preschoolers can see their favorite Nick Jr. characters come to life in the show, which is hosted by Moose A. Moose and Zee.
Tickets range from $17.50 to $38.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 15 at Ticketmaster.com; the Covelli Centre retail locations, including Giant Eagle and Macy’s; by phone at (866) 448-7849; and at the box office. Additional fees may be applicable.
Tony nominee ‘Xanadu’ coming to Benedum
PITTSBURGH — Tony Award-nominee “Xanadu” will come to Benedum Center for eight performances, Feb. 23-28.
“Xanadu” is based on the 1980 cult-classic movie of the same name, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. The musical adaptation made its Broadway debut in 2007. This is the show’s first national tour.
The story takes audiences back to 1980s California, where the muse Kira descends from the heavens to inspire the greatest of artistic achievements: the first roller disco.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23, 24 and 25; 8 p.m. Feb. 26; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 27; and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28.
Parents’ Night Out offers fun for kids
PITTSBURGH — Carnegie Science Center is offering parents three chances to have a night out on the town with its Parents’ Night Out program, which provides a safe, fun and educational alternative to a baby sitter.
On Feb. 13, parents can bring their children to the Science Center at 5 p.m., spend the night as they please, then return at 10 or 11 p.m. to pick them up. Children enjoy dinner, an Omnimax film, a laser show, a science activity and time to explore the exhibits.
Two other Parents’ Night Out programs are scheduled for March 20 and May 15.
Parents’ Night Out programming is designed for children ages 6–12. Cost per child is $35 for Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh members and $40 for nonmembers.
Normal pick-up time is 10 p.m., and those who wish to make the most of their evening can pick up their kids at 11 p.m. for an additional $10. Preregistration is required; call (412) 237-1637.
