Conviction stands in Ohio crash that killed 3
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio appeals court has upheld a motorist’s conviction in a nine-vehicle crash that killed three graduate students from China.
Jason Skaggs was found guilty nearly two years ago of three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault.
In Skaggs’ appeal, his attorney argued that the March 2007 crash was caused by epileptic seizure Skaggs suffered, not any recklessness on his part.
But a state appeals court in Springfield refused to overturn the conviction on Friday, finding Skaggs acted recklessly in failing to take his epilepsy medication.
Defense attorney Paul Courtney says he can’t disagree with the conclusions.
Three Urbana University students were killed on their way back to campus from a shopping trip.
