Pittsburgh to be fully reimbursed for G20 costs
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says the state and federal governments will fully reimburse the city for hosting September’s Group of 20 economic summit.
Ravenstahl said Monday the roughly $12.2 million in costs includes police, fire and EMS overtime, training, insurance, equipment, housing and meals. The costs for the event came in about $2 million under budget.
The Department of Justice will pay about $7.5 million, the state about $3.4 million and the Department of Homeland Security $1.25 million.
Ravenstahl says the training and equipment the city’s public safety personnel received will help the city position itself to host other large-scale events.
