Children Services grant for AIDS services
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Children Services received a $116,000 grant with which to assist individuals with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) with housing and supportive services.
Children Services, 535 Marmion Ave., a member of the Youngstown Ryan White Consortium, is one of six Ohio nonprofit organizations to receive a combined $1 million under the Ohio Department of Development’s Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS program.
Children Services will use the one-year grant to fund its program to provide rental, mortgage, utility and case-management assistance to 290 households.
Statewide, agencies will provide services to some 2,842 households, said Lisa Patt-McDaniel, director of the ODOD.
New Campbell sidewalks for better school access
CAMPBELL — The city is going to install new sidewalks to improve access to the Campbell K-8 school complex, said city administrator Lewis Jackson.
The project will be part of the Struthers-Liberty Road paving project that will begin this spring, he said.
The sidewalk project, using funds from the Ohio Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program, will cost $416,000, Jackson said.
The road paving, 1.9 miles, will cost $83,000. That money is coming from federal grants.
Sidewalks will be installed on the east side of Struthers-Liberty Road, starting at Kimmel Avenue on the south and extending to Carlton Avenue on the north; and from Tenney Avenue on the south to Sanderson Avenue on the north.
They also will be installed on the south side of Porter Avenue from the crosswalk at St. Joseph School on the west to a sidewalk on Struthers-Liberty Road on the east.
Haiti benefit concert
YOUNGSTOWN — A benefit concert, “hip-hop 4 Haiti,” will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday at the Love Lounge, 15 W. Federal St., in the city’s downtown.
Tod cemetery cleanup
YOUNGSTOWN — The annual cleanup of Tod Homestead Cemetery will take place March 15.
All decorations, including solar lights, will be removed at this time. Anyone wishing to recover their decorations must do so before this date.
