Maplewood (Junior)
Krystal Williams placed 21st at state in Div. III in personal-best 20:06.68, after finishing fifth at regional at Boardman High, where the Rockets won the championship. A week earlier, Williams won the district title at Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Bazetta on a muddy course.
The 5-5 Williams started the season strong, then saw a dip in her running during invitational meets before resuming her late-season surge heading into district. An injury-free autumn facilitated her progress.
In the offseason, the 16-year-old is on Maplewood’s bowling team, which has matches on Mondays and Wednesdays. Also, Williams practices with her traveling hockey team twice a week in Lakewood and doesn’t get home until midnight.
Krystal began cross country in the 7th grade when she and a friend decided to use the sport toward conditioning for hockey.
Krystal is the daughter of Rick and Karen Williams of Mecca. Her mom is a Rayen graduate.
