Man blames Ozzy Osbourne for drunken-driving arrest
CLEVELAND
An Ohio drunken-driving suspect is blaming his arrest on Ozzy Osbourne.
William Liston was arrested Christmas Eve in suburban Cleveland. WJW-TV says he told police officers, “Ozzy Osbourne and his music made me do it.”
Osbourne’s hits as lead singer of heavy- metal band Black Sabbath and as a solo artist include “Paranoid” and “Road to Nowhere.”
Liston is awaiting arraignment. He’s to appear in court Tuesday on a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired.
In an unrelated case, Liston pleaded not guilty Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in a November break-in at a medical office. He was released on bond.
Telephone calls to the 33-year-old Liston’s home in Aurora have gone unanswered.
Croatian daily runs only good news for a day
ZAGREB, Croatia
A huge smiley face is on the front page, and politics and crime are banished. The leading daily in Croatia is publishing only good news for a day.
Alen Galovic, the executive editor of 24 Sata, says 2010 brought too much bad news, and Thursday’s edition “brings a little light and a bit of hope.”
The paper published stories about the rescue of a trapped dog, a hairdresser who cuts orphans’ hair for free and businessmen who defied the financial crisis.
Galovic says the appointment of new ministers and the seizure of paintings from an ex-prime minister suspected of corruption were being ignored for the day.
Some bad news managed to slip through, however: The horoscope still forecast trouble for people under some signs.
Erie firefighters ‘rescue’ woman stuck in carwash
ERIE, Pa.
Erie firefighters had to rescue a woman who, for a few brief minutes, was beset by some steadily depressing, low-down mind-messin’ stuck-in-the-carwash blues.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Fahey says crews responded to the drive-through carwash about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday when a woman reported that her vehicle became stuck in the business.
Firefighters arrived to find that the front and back doors of the automated carwash had closed with the woman’s vehicle still inside.
Fahey tells the Erie Times-News the fix was quick. He says the woman didn’t drive far enough into the carwash to trigger the exit door. Firefighters hit the switch for her, and she was able to drive away safely.
