POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Dec. 22

Fraud: A Fifth Avenue woman noticed an unauthorized $1,700 charge to her Discover card.

Dec. 23

Breaking and entering: The front door to a vacant home in the 100 block of Rebecca Avenue was kicked in.

Identity theft: A woman in the 500 block of Gladys Street reported being a victim.

Menacing: A Youngstown-Hubbard Road man told officers his girlfriend’s father made threats against him.

Dec. 24

Recovered property: A clerk at a West Liberty Street gas station found someone’s billfold.

Dec. 25

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at two vehicles on Hillview Drive.

Dec. 26

Assault: An Elmwood Drive man removing snow from his driveway alleged another man pushed him during an argument.

LIBERTY

Dec. 22

Recovered property: Police, along with an employee of a Youngstown company, found in the 2700 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road vehicle parts, a statue and a bronze lamp thought to have been stolen during break-ins in the city.

Theft: Clothing, toys, money and food were removed from a car in the 2900 block of Northview Boulevard.

Criminal damaging: Someone broke a double-pane window to a home in the 3400 block of Hadley Avenue.

Burglary: In the 4800 block of Sampson Drive, where two TVs and a laptop computer were taken.

Arrest: Officers picked up 62-year-old Kenneth R. Jackson of Fairlawn, Ohio, at the Mahoning County Jail on outstanding warrants from the township. He faced charges of carrying a concealed weapon, driving under suspension and providing false information to police.

Theft: A 16-year-old Masury girl was detained and released to the custody of her mother after $102 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

Theft: An owner of Foust Construction Inc., 1700 Wilson Ave., discovered someone had siphoned roughly 600 gallons of diesel fuel from company-owned storage tanks and trucks. The loss came to about $1,800.

Arrest: Officers responded to a possible theft on Monticello Boulevard and charged 28-year-old James W. Minard, 4116 Monticello, with criminal trespassing and felony theft.

Dec. 23

Theft: Gerald R. Brown, 47, of 223 Mumford Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and obstructing official business, and 44-year-old Daron N. Little, 86 Madison St., Campbell, was charged with obstructing official business after $70 worth of merchandise had been stolen from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza. Little provided false information that hampered their investigation, police said.

Burglary: Warren police handed 21-year-old Matthew A. Cooper, 2309 Oak St. SW, Warren, to township authorities. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant charging him with the crime.

Arrest: Officers approached a vehicle in a no-parking zone at a Goldie Road store, then arrested 52-year-old Beverly J. Peigowski, 38 Tuttle Lane, Girard, on warrants from Portage County charging her with operating a vehicle impaired and domestic violence.

Criminal damaging: A residence in the 10 block of Scott Lane sustained a broken window.

Burglary: In the 3200 block of Cardinal Drive through a rear door. A firearm, a DVD player and other items were stolen, for a $2,090 loss.

Dec. 24

Burglary: To a trailer in the 20 block of James Lane. Taken was a $100 futon.

Felonious assault: A Youngstown man told authorities that as he left a Belmont Avenue eatery, another man punched his face and struck the back of the accuser’s head with a beer bottle. The man was treated for cuts and a possible fracture to his face.

Dec. 25

Arrest: Officers on Fifth Avenue charged 45-year-old Derrick D. Slocum, 65 Brooklyn Ave., Youngstown, with receiving stolen property, attempted escape and possession of drug paraphernalia after saying Slocum had a large assortment of jewelry and a box of checks stolen from a nearby residence that had been ransacked. Also found was a suspected crack pipe, a report said.

Dec. 26

Domestic violence: Brian E. Smith, 38, was taken into custody at his residence, 1466 Townsend Ave., Liberty, and charged when, police said, he admitted having struck his teenage son several times in the arm with a plastic clothes hanger. The boy had a welt and bruise in the affected area.

Theft: Three women left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., without paying their $17 food bill.

GIRARD

Dec. 22

Domestic violence: Police charged 34-year-old Josh Kersten, 131 Belgrade Ave., Girard, with the crime after his brother alleged an intoxicated Kersten had hit and pushed him, causing both to fall down a flight of steps.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant trailer in the 700 block of Trumbull Avenue, though nothing seemed to be disturbed or missing.

Dec. 23

Burglary: To a residence in the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue, from which a laptop computer, a camera and a set of keys were stolen.

Dec. 25

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s tires were slashed in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue.

Assault: A Church Hill Road man told police another man pulled the accuser’s hood over his head and choked him.

Dec. 26

Harassment: An Illinois Avenue woman reported her son’s girlfriend has been making such calls.

Criminal mischief: A Morris Avenue woman saw that eggs had been splattered on her home’s front door and windows.

Theft: A man in the 500 block of West Liberty Street reported the theft of two gift cards.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a vacant residence in the 50 block of Hancock Street and removed cooper pipes from the basement and wiring from several light fixtures.

Theft: A man stole a $2 beverage item from McQuaid’s Transportation, 307 S. State St., then fled on foot.

Dec. 27

Criminal mischief: Three windows to a residence in the 200 block of East Second Street were smashed.

Criminal mischief: A minivan in the 400 block of East Prospect Street was found with three flat tires.
