YOUNGSTOWN

Two city men are in the Mahoning County jail on two separate acts of violence against family members where weapons were used.

Cody Jordan, 18, of Valley Road, appeared Tuesday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of felony aggravated burglary and kidnapping as well as a misdemeanor charge of firing a gun in the city limits.

Jordan told the court he is unemployed and working side jobs to support himself. The court ordered that an attorney be assigned to represent Jordan.

Prosecutors told the court Jordan previously had been arrested for burglary and attempted burglary.

Judge Kobly set Jordan’s bond at a combined $200,000 on the charges and ordered him to have no contact with his 18-year-old live-in girlfriend or the girl’s 54-year-old aunt.

According to police, Jordan held a gun to the 18-year-old woman’s head and threatened to shoot her while at her aunt’s Verona Avenue apartment Monday before forcing her to walk with him to a different location.

Jordan and the woman have a child in common.

The woman told police she and Jordan got into an argument after he accused her of seeing other men when she wanted to leave her aunt’s house and return to their home to clean up.

She told officers Jordan eventually pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot out the apartment windows.

The woman told police Jordan had left the apartment, fired two shots in the air, then kicked doors open to regain entry.

She said he pointed a gun at the aunt, then held the gun to her head and forced her out of the apartment.

The couple returned to the apartment to get their baby, then left again.

Police found the couple at their Valley Road home.

Jordan was arrested, and police found a handgun inside the home on a coffee table covered with paper.

Derrick Ross, 46, of 63 Lilburne Street, also appeared before Judge Kobly for arraignment on charges of felonious assault after police say he stabbed his son when an argument escalated.

Prosecutors told the court Ross had previously been arrested on an aggravated menacing charge.

Judge Kobly ordered Ross held on a $75,000 bond and ordered that he have no contact with his son, also named Derrick Ross.

The son, 26, was listed in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center with a stab wound to his abdomen.

As of Tuesday, the younger Jordan still was listed in critical condition.

When police arrived at the Lilburne residence, a third man was restraining the father, who had a 12-inch kitchen knife in his hand.

When officers told the man to release the father, he raised the knife as if to stab his son again. That’s when the officer put his gun to the man’s head and demanded that he drop the weapon.

He complied, but the father and son began wrestling in the kitchen.

Witnesses said the stabbing resulted when the father grew angry waiting for his son to finish using the phone as he waited for a call.
