A Youngstown man has been charged with felonious assault, accused of stabbing his son when an argument escalated.
Derrick Ross, 46, of 63 Lilburne Street, was taken into custody after the Sunday incident.
His son, also named Derrick Ross, 26, was listed in critical condition at St. Elizabeth’s with a stab wound to his abdomen according to police reports made Sunday. No update on his condition was available Monday night.
When police arrived at the Lilburne residence, a third man was restraining the father, who had a 12-inch kitchen knife in his hand. When officers told the man to release the father, he raised the knife as if to stab his son again. That’s when the officer put his gun to the man’s head and demanded that he drop the weapon. He complied, but the father and son began wrestling in the kitchen.
Officers were able to break up the fight up and called an ambulance for the son.
Witnesses said the stabbing resulted when the father grew angry waiting for his son to finish using the phone as he waited for a call. They said “bad blood” still existed from another fight one year earlier.
