American Heart Association auction to feature unique string of pearls

YOUNGSTOWN

The 2011 Strand of Hope, a one-of-a-kind pearl necklace created by Tom Duma and his family at Thom Duma Fine Jewelers, will be auctioned off at the American Heart Association Heart Ball on Feb. 12 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Proceeds from the auction will support research in the areas of cardiovascular disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 leading causes of death.

The principle behind the Strand of Hope pearl necklace is that members of the community, whether attending the ball or simply wishing to honor a special person, or in memory of a loved one, may purchase a $50 tribute.

When all the tributes have been received, Thom Duma Fine Jewelers will donate a pearl for each tribute and will create a unique, exquisite piece of jewelry to be auctioned off at the ball.

The Heart Ball is the most anticipated black tie event of the season in the tri-county area. Each year it attracts more than 300 guests to the evening of elegance where attendees can enjoy live and silent auctions, a dinner and dancing while supporting pediatric cardiovascular research.
