Son, dog terrorized but survive robbery
TOLEDO (AP)
An Ohio woman says her 13-year-old son was held at gunpoint by two robbers who stole gifts and overturned the family’s Christmas tree while she was out shopping for the holidays. The men broke in through an unlocked bathroom window Wednesday night, Diane Warren of Toledo told WTOL-TV.
“They asked him to do what they said or else they would shoot him,” she said. The robbers also kicked the family’s small dog when it tried to protect the 8th-grade boy, Warren told The (Toledo) Blade.
She said her 23-year-old daughter arrived home just as the men left. The boy called his mother, and a neighbor called police.
The Blade reports that officers followed footsteps in the snow and were able to recover some of the gifts, including a Sony PlayStation.
Warren said the thieves “just stole our life for the moment. My son says he doesn’t want to be in the house.”
Warren said she doesn’t care about presents but is just thankful that her children were not hurt.
Paraplegic AF vet stabbed, strangled
DAYTON (AP)
Police in Ohio continue to search for the killer of a paraplegic U.S. Air Force veteran who was found stabbed and strangled.
Authorities say 66-year-old William Boykin, of Jefferson Township, was found dead in his van Wednesday after Dayton police received a call that the vehicle had been in a neighborhood for about two days. Family members say they last saw him at church Sunday.
His former wife, Penelope Daniels, told the Dayton Daily News that, just before his death, Boykin had purchased money orders to give his 16 grandchildren for Christmas.
