Canfield swimmers break records, beat Beaver Local
The Canfield boys and girls swimming and teams swept Beaver Local in a dual meet on Dec. 15 at the Calcutta YMCA. The girls squad posted a 131-27 victory, while the boys earned a 137-29 win.
Mallory Allen won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the Cards’ winning 200-yard free and 400-yard free relay squads.
Gia Velasquez broke two pool records. She won the 200-yard IM victory and also claimed the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also swam lead-off for the winning 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay.
Hilary Allen won the 50-yard free, Taylor Rodenbaugh won the 100-yard backstroke, Alexx Montalto took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly and Olivia Williamson won the 500-yard free.
All three Canfield relays broke pool records.
In the boys’ meet, Gavin Trebilcock led the Cards by breaking two individual pool records and swimming as part of two relay teams that also broke pool marks. He won the 50-yard free and 100-yard breaststroke in record time. He also was a member of the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay.
Daniel Bogen snapped the pool record in the 200-yard free and also won the 500-yard free. Nicky Montalto won the 100-yard butterfly, Drew Wellham broke the pool record in the 200-yard IM and won the 100-yard backstroke and Ryan O’Malley was the winner in the 100-yard free.
All three Canfield relay teams broke the pool records.
On Dec. 9, the swimmers beat rival Poland 125-56 (boys) and 126-32 (girls) in a dual meet at Youngstown State University.
Quadruple first-place winners for the girls team were Hilary Allen, 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard free relay; and Mallory Allen, 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard free, 100-yard fly and 200-yard free relay.
Top multiple first-place winners for the boys team were Daniel Bogen, 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard free, 200-yard free relay and 400-yard free relay; Jake Smith, 200-yard medley relay, 500-yard free, 200-yard free relay and 400-yard free relay and Gavin Trebilcock, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard free relay.
