YOUNGSTOWN

Police say teens may be responsible for an early-morning shooting that sent two people to the hospital.

A 16-year-old Warren boy and a 19-year-old Griffith Street woman are recovering at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after a shooting at 12:43 a.m. Thursday on Rosedale Avenue on the South Side. Police said the woman was shot in the head but was expected to recover.

According to police reports, the woman was sitting in a red 1997 Ford Taurus talking to the teen boy when gunshots rang out. The boy told police he tried to get away when the shooting started but was shot in the buttocks as he turned to run.

Police found the woman face down covered in blood on the steering wheel. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, but emergency personnel said the bullet did not penetrate her skull.

The woman was able to give a statement to police at the hospital.

Witnesses told officers that someone dressed in all black began shooting in the direction of the car from a short distance away.

Police Capt. Rod Foley said detectives have been canvassing the area and do have suspects, believed to be two juveniles, in mind. He said arrests will not be far off.

“We have to go over some evidence and a few statements, then we are going to go see the juvenile prosecutor,” Foley said.
