Neighbors | Shaiyla Hakeem .The early childhood education program collected money Dec. 17 from students and faculty members who wore Santa hats and ugly Christmas sweaters. This was the first year for the holiday fundraiser.

Students, faculty and staff at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center put ugly sweaters to good use Dec. 17 in order to raise funds.

The group participated in ugly Christmas sweater and Santa hat day, which was created by juniors and seniors enrolled in the early childhood education program as a fundraiser for the year.

To participate in the holiday fun day, a fee of 50 cents was charged. Monies collected will be used to fund skill events during the spring.

Most students wore Santa hats instead of ugly Christmas sweatshirts. Program supervisor Julie Pagnotta said this is probably because most students’ taste varies from that of faculty members.

“We know that every teacher has a sweater in the closet for the holidays,” she said. “We think it’s cute, but the students thing they’re hideous!”
