POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Dec. 16

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen at a Trumbull Avenue business.

Dec. 17

Criminal mischief: A woman said two juveniles threw snowballs at her Crumlin Avenue residence.

Criminal damaging: A car’s passenger-side window was shattered in the 800 block of North State Street.

Dec. 18

Assault: A Parkview Drive man alleged his former girlfriend slapped his face when the man refused to move his truck.

Theft: A phone charger, a global-positioning-system unit and several DVDs were removed from a vehicle in the 400 block of Joan Avenue, for a $215 loss.

Vandalism: Several juveniles reportedly pulled out a handicap sign at a South State Street fast-food restaurant.

Dec. 19

Criminal mischief: A home in the 100 block of West Howard Street had a broken window.

Criminal damaging: Someone drove through and damaged a yard in the 1600 block of Squaw Creek Drive.

Theft: A Patricia Drive woman reported the theft of her food-stamp card.

Menacing: A Louis Circle woman told police her estranged boyfriend sent 23 text messages threatening to harm the accuser and damage her property.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at and stuck feathers on a vehicle in the 900 block of North Avenue.

Criminal damaging: A car’s driver’s-side mirror was damaged in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue.

HUBBARD

Dec. 15

Breaking and entering: Police made an arrest after a neighbor reported having seen a suspicious person walk toward a vacant Waugh Street residence. Officers found someone inside, though details were not in the report.

Theft: Property was stolen from a home in the 200 block of Viola Avenue.

Menacing: A woman driving near West Liberty Street told police someone in a black Pontiac Grand Am was intentionally following her.

Dec. 16

Possible breaking and entering: An apartment in the 300 block of Erie Street was found with a broken window.

Menacing: A man reported having been threatened at a Youngstown-Hubbard Road gas station.

Dec. 17

Harassment: A Spring Street couple reported a neighbor has been harassing them.

Burglary: To a vacant home in the 50 block of Hager Street when someone kicked open a side door. Copper pipes were missing from the basement.

Dec. 18

Aggravated menacing: Matthew P. Shelton, 19, of 80 Parish Ave., Hubbard, was charged after police responded to an altercation near Creed Avenue, where another person alleged Shelton had approached with a gun. The weapon was a pellet gun, a report said.

LIBERTY

Dec. 16

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicular accident near state Route 304 and charged 39-year-old Lisa M. Puskar, 1650 Rockwood Drive, Youngstown, with leaving the scene of an accident, obstructing official business and driving under the influence. Puskar lost control of her car, then fled on foot, a report showed.

Trespassing: Authorities responded to a possible breaking-and-entering situation in the 1900 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road, then charged Joseph D. Prinkley, 47 Earl St., Girard, Brandon M. Carpenter, 3267 Lewis-Seifert Road, Hubbard, both 19, and a 17-year-old Girard boy with criminal trespassing. The three admitted having been in the residence, but denied stealing anything, a report said.

Recovered property: An employee with a Trumbull Avenue business reported a co-worker on a sales route who got a vehicle stuck in the snow failed to return it.. Warren police, however, found the van.

Theft: A Roosevelt Drive woman reported the theft of a package containing toys.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a building in the 6600 block of Belmont Avenue through a rear window, though it was unknown if anything was missing.

Burglary: A charge was pending against a Girard boy, 17, after a laptop computer, an Xbox game system and related accessories were removed from a Leslie Lane residence someone had entered. Police returned the items to the family.

Dec. 17

Arrest: Authorities issued a summons to 58-year-old Edward W. Hawkins, 1373 Forestview Drive, Youngstown, accusing him of disorderly conduct after a cashier at a Liberty Plaza store reported an irate customer had shoved her.

Assault: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, told police several girls attacked her as she left a basketball game. The accuser had a cut to her forehead.

Theft: A Catherine Street man noticed small unauthorized long-distance charges on his phone bill and theorized someone might have tampered with an outside accessory box.

Dec. 18

Theft: David Plazio, 53, of 249 Curry Place, Youngstown, faced charges of theft and criminal trespassing after $10 worth of beer was stolen from a BP Unimart station, 2703 Belmont Ave. Plazio had been advised to stay off the premises, police said.

Theft: A Liberty High School student discovered an MP3 player and a set of headphones missing from a duffel bag.

Dec. 19

Assault: A teenage girl at a James Lane home reported another girl grabbed the accuser’s hair and pulled her head backward, causing her to strike a door.

Theft: Several customers left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., and failed to pay the $24 bill.
