Phantom Squirts post two victories

The Youngstown Phantoms Squirt hockey team outscored its two opponents a combined 15-2 to earn a pair of victories last weekend at the Ice Zone.

On Saturday, the Squirts rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over the Pittsburgh Predators.

The Predators took an early lead after scoring once in the first period and once in the second period. The Phantoms finally got the offense going in the final period. Just 1:30 into the third period, Dominic Joseph (Canfield) scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. A minute later, Bo Gray (Boardman) tied the score at 2-all.

Devin Whitaker (Boardman) scored his first of three goals at 7:49 in the third to give the Squirts a 3-2 lead. Whitaker scored his second goal at 5:25 and then earned the hat trick with an empty net goal with 47 seconds left in the game.

Nick Beck (Boardman) earned the win at goal, stopping 22 shots.

On Sunday, Bo Gray (Boardman) scored a hat trick and Joseph (Canfield) tallied two goals to lead the Squirts to 10-0 nonleague win over the Akron/Canton Penguins.

Also scoring goals for Youngstown were Whitaker (Boardman), Macy Banner (Canton), Michael Fetsko (Boardman), Tyler Berry (Canfield) and Vince Hepola (Canfield).

Lane Kline (Pulaski) was at goal for the Phantoms. He faced only four shots on goal in posting the shutout. The Phantoms had 34 shots on goal.
