Metheny, Ellis lead Lakeview over Champion

Elliot Metheny scored 13 points and Ryan Ellis added 11 more for Lakeview (3-3) in a 62-41 victory over rival Champion in a non-conference boys basketball game on Wednesday night.

A 20-point second quarter allowed Lakeview to take a 36-18 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs shot better than 50 percent (28 of 54).

Ross Farmer scored 13 points for Champion (1-4), which was 16 of 42 from the field.

Lowellville 69, Heartland Christian 43

COLUMBIANA

Anthony Alfano had a game-high 26 points for Lowellville.

The senior scored 15 in the first half as the Rockets (3-1) took a 32-18 lead. Alfano is averaging 18.5 points per game. Dean Donatelli adedd 10 points and eight rebounds for the Rockets.

Owen Stryffeler led Heartland with 15 points, while Jon Osborn had 14. The Lions committed 14 turnovers to Lowellville’s nine.

McDonald 74, Girard 50

GIRARD

Matthias Tayala had a game-high 31 points including 15 of 20 at the line, while Louie Ronghi added 18 points.

The Blue Devils (4-0) led 27-10 after the first quarter and 40-19 at halftime.

McDonald is averaging more than 90 points per game and has an average margin of victory of almost 50 points.

Michael Bornemiss’ 17 points led Girard.
