Mahoning Co. CSB receives funding to provide housing for AIDS victims

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Children Services will receive a $137,600 grant to provide rental, mortgage, utility, and case-management assistance to Mahoning Valley residents with AIDS.

The money is part of $1.2 million grant the Ohio Department of Development is giving to five nonprofits in the state. The money will aid about 400 people in 272 Valley households.

“This program is designed to implement long-term strategies for meeting the housing needs of Ohioans who suffer from AIDS or HIV-related diseases,” Lisa Patt-McDaniel, department director, said in a press release today.

“Today’s investments will ensure that these individuals have a roof over their heads and the help they need to overcome their financial challenges as they continue to fight the disease,” she added.

Organizations in Montgomery, Athens, Summit and Stark counties also will receive money.

Funds are awarded through the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS Program, administered by the department’s Office of Housing and Community Partnerships.
