This was the sixth year the Key Club has volunteered at the non-profit organization during the Christmas season.

Members of the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center’s Key Club gave the gift of time to volunteer their services at the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission Dec. 16.

The day began at the Rescue Mission’s distribution center where they helped sort clothes and items that had been donated. This was the first year the group visited the center, but it plans to make it an annual thing. The club sponsored a gift drive at the school for items to take with them to donate as Christmas presents.

The day ended with the students serving lunch at the residence center. Food trays were made by the students and individually served to those who were seated.

This was Boardman resident Ariana Byrd’s first time volunteering at the Rescue Mission. The experience made her view things in her life differently.

“It makes you grateful to have a mother who has a job and can go get groceries for you,” she said.
