Hockey trophies at science center

PITTSBURGH

Carnegie Science Center and the Pittsburgh Penguins are teaming up to present exhibits from the Hockey Hall of Fame at the Science Center during the week leading up to the Winter Classic, Dec. 27–31. Displays will include every trophy ever won by individual Penguins, plus memorabilia of Penguins stars, including Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Marc-Andre Fleury, Jaromir Jagr, Evgeni Malkin, Ron Stackhouse and Rick Kehoe. Visitors can demonstrate their skills with interactive hockey games in Highmark SportsWorks. A 30-minute show about the history of the Stanley Cup will be presented in the Works Theater daily at noon and 2 p.m. On Dec. 30 and 31 only, the Stanley Cup will be on display from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hours on Dec. 27, 28 and 29 will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with admission to the hockey exhibits closing at 6 p.m. on Dec. 29. Viewing the exhibits will be free with general admission to the Carnegie Science Center: $17.95 for adults, $9.95 for children. The Pittsburgh Penguins will play the Washington Capitals in the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day at adjacent Heinz Field.

Landesberg dies

LOS ANGELES

Steve Landesberg may have been best known for his role as the intellectual and sometimes annoying Detective Sgt. Arthur Dietrich on the long-running 1970s cop comedy “Barney Miller.” But younger audiences knew him too — for a slew of recent parts such as the doctor on the 2008 hit movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” The veteran actor died Monday at age 65, his agent, Jeffrey Leavitt, told The Associated Press. The cause of death wasn’t released. Landesberg appeared in dozens of TV shows, his curly haired, bespectacled face easily recognizable.
