J plans speaker on black studies

The Youngstown Jewish Community Center will host Galia Sabar, chairwoman of the African Studies Department of Tel Aviv University, at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Multipurpose room at the J.

Sabar is also a human rights activist who has spent many years fighting for the rights of the African refugees and immigrants living in Israel.

In 2009 she became the first Israeli to win the prestigious Unsung Heroes Award granted by the Dalai Lama.

The cost is $7 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Wine and cheese will be served.
