Walk canceled

Youngstown

Today’s Winter Solstice Walk at Ford Nature Center is canceled.

The event, which was scheduled for 6 p.m., previously was removed from the Mill Creek MetroParks e-mail event calendar but not from the website, said Linda Kostka, development and marketing director.

Kostka apologized for the error, saying the cancellation was on too-short notice to schedule another event for the evening.

Child overdose

STRUTHERS

Detectives are investigating a case in which a 10-month-old girl overdosed on medication and was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital.

The child, who lives at a Creed Street address, was in intensive care but stable, a police report said. The child’s mother found her unresponsive in her bed Thursday morning. She was transferred to the Akron hospital from its Boardman campus.

Police said the child’s father admitted having a methadone pill in his pants pocket the evening before, and it may have fallen out of his pocket and onto the floor while he was playing with his 4-year-old son. The child may have found it, he said.

He also said the pill might have been a pain pill. The police report said he admitted to hospital staff that he did not have a prescription for either medicine.

The hospital notified Mahoning County Children Services.
