YOUNGSTOWN

The attempted purchase of marijuana on the South Side landed one man in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to his arm.

The 34-year-old East Florida Avenue man told police he went to a home in the 1200 block of East Indianola Avenue on Friday afternoon to purchase marijuana. He told officers he noticed at least three guns inside the house, and several men who were in the house acted nervous upon his entrance.

The man told police he made a $20 purchase of marijuana and left the home walking down Indianola when he was stopped by a friend who also wanted to purchase some marijuana. The man said he got into the friend’s car and returned to the Indianola home.

The man said several males standing outside the house began shooting at him as soon as he pulled up in the car. He said once the shooting stopped he asked why he was being shot at, and the men began firing at him again, striking him in the arm. He jumped back in the car and left the area.

The man went to a relative’s house on West Dewey Avenue for help, but no one was home. The man told police a passer-by gave him a ride to St. Elizabeth Health Center but left the area before police arrived because he did not have a driver’s license.

The gunshot wound to the man’s arm was not life threatening, police said.
