Nominations due in January for OSU Young Scholars Program
YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio State University Young Scholars Program of Youngstown will accept nominations for current sixth-graders attending city schools beginning Jan. 5, said Tiffany Quinones, new program coordinator.
The program, founded in 1988, is a comprehensive pre-collegiate and collegiate program designed to enhance the academic, personal, and career development of its students.
It annually identifies and serves hundreds of academically talented first-generation college students from economically challenged backgrounds, Quinones said.
They are required to maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 or above. The program is designed to increase the number of African-American, Latino/Hispanic, American Indian, and Appalachian students at OSU. Applications will be given to middle school principals and guidance counselors.
