Special Olympics to sponsor Polar Plunge at Mosquito Lake

Staff report

CORTLAND

Special Olympics Ohio will have a Polar Plunge on Jan. 22 at Mosquito Lake.

Participants obtain monetary pledges and then jump or slowly crawl into the lake to earn their pledges. A minimum in pledges (depending on age and location) is necessary to participate. All plungers receive a T-shirt, food and nonalcoholic beverages at a post-plunge party. There also are incentive prizes for those who collect more than the minimum pledge. Individuals and groups are welcome to participate. Personalized online fundraising pages are available.

Another opportunity to participate is “Too Chicken to Plunge.” Individuals raise a minimum of $30 and are awarded with a “Too Chicken to Plunge” T-shirt. This option does not require jumping into the water.

Participants may preregister from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Cort-land Moose Lodge, 6400 state Route 46. Check-in and registration the day of the event is from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Participants will plunge into the lake at 1:30 p.m.

This event, along with others throughout the state, is among the largest fundraisers for Special Olympics Ohio. All money raised from the Polar Plunge benefits more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes in Ohio.
