Discussion group to meet, address safety of cosmetics

Staff report

BOARDMAN

Lissa Bell, an advocate for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, will initiate a monthly discussion group at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Boardman, beginning Jan. 10.

Recent media attention has been given to the book “No More Dirty Looks: The Truth about Your Beauty Products — and the Ultimate Guide to Safe and Clean Cosmetics” by Alexandra Spunt and Siobhan O’Connor.

The first book to be discussed will be “Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry” by Stacy Malkin.

The purpose of the group is to raise awareness of the known carcinogens, hormone disrupters, neurotoxins and other harmful chemicals in beauty and self-care products.

Bell is a managing esthetician at Magnolias on the Green in Canfield, an herbal skin-care practitioner and owner of Lissa’s Naturals.
