Chaney turns back Collinwood

Zatonia Yancey had 15 points and seven rebounds and Chmicka Kennedy added 12 points, three rebounds and six assists for Chaney High girls basketball team, which defeated Cleveland Collinwood 55-38 on Saturday.

The Cowgirls used a 23-3 advantage in the third quarter to put the game away. Laniece McRae had nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. For Collinwood (2-1), Brittany Smith had 17 points and Katrina Felger 14.

Warren Harding 60, Euclid 36

WARREN

Kourtney Williams scored 18 points, seven steals and seven rebounds for Harding (5-0, 2-0 Lake Erie League), which rolled up a 36-18 halftime lead.

It was the 156th win for Raiders coach P.J. Notar, who passed John Beach for first on the school’s career wins list. Anita Brown added 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks and Diamonn Hymes had 10 points and five steals.

For Euclid (1-3, 0-3), DeShaundra Smith scored 18.

Champion 45, Niles 33

NILES

Haley McAllister scored 11 points for Champion, and got nine more from Lindsay Swipas. Niles was paced by Megan Morris’ 11 points.

Lowellville 72, Jackson-Milton 23

NORTH JACKSON

The Rockets stayed undefeated thanks in part to four players scoring in the double figures. Kaye Solak led the Rockets (5-0) with 16 points, and behind her were Taylor Hvisdak with 14 and Emily Carlson and Ashley Moore with 10 each.

Paige Kiraly scored 10 for the Bluejays (0-4).

United 67, Crestview 44

HANOVERTON

Ruth Prosko had the game’s only double-double by scoring 15 points and bringing down 11 rebounds for United. The Eagles (4-1) also got 12 points from Sierra Parks, Crystal Richards and Taylor Smith.

Crestview’s leading scorers were Chelsea Caudil and Ashley Harrision with 10 points each.

West Branch 57, Can. South 53

CANTON

Brandi Snyder scored 27 points and West Branch outscored Canton South 22-9 in the fourth quarter to rally for the Northeastern Buckeye Conference victory.

The Warriors (3-4, 2-2) made 22 of 32 from the line to overcome a rough shooting game (14 of 40) and 25 turnovers. Andrea Wingett had seven points and eight rebounds in the win.

Southeast 66, Akr. Springfield 47

AKRON

Emily Harsh scored 18 points to lead Southeast in a Portage Trail Conference game. Shayna White scored 15 points and Katelyn McCullough had 13 for the Pirates (2-5, 2-3), while Springfield fell to 1-5, 0-5.
