On the morning of Nov. 23, Woodside kindergarten student John Carballo decided to wear a suit and tie to school. After arriving that morning, even he was surprised that his outfit would help him get a real taste of what it was like to be principal.
Carballo’s teacher, Jen Schnieder, recalled with a laugh the conversation she had with Carballo’s mother that day.
“I asked her why he was so dressed up on just a regular morning, and she said, ‘I didn’t want him to wear the suit, but he insisted!’”
Given the chance to explain himself, Carballo said simply, “I dressed up because I want to be a principal when I grow up, and Mr. [Tim] Kelty always wears a tie.”
When Kelty heard Carballo’s reasoning, he gladly invited him to the principal’s office to experience the real thing.
“I sat in Mr. Kelty’s chair, said ‘come in’ when our secretary knocked on the door, and pretended to write on some papers,” Carballo explained of his exciting experience.
“Did it feel like the real thing?” Schneider asked Carballo.
With a bright smile, Carballo answered, “It sure did!”
