Film crew’s focus will be Billy Beck
Warren
A film crew from the TV One network will be in town Sunday to interview and tape Billy Beck, the Grammy Award-winning keyboardist and songwriter. The segment will air on an episode of “Unsung,” TV One’s biography series.
“Unsung” shines a spotlight on influential and talented R&B, soul and gospel artists who did not achieve the status they deserved. This year, “Unsung” has done episodes on Teddy Pendergrass, Tammi Terrell, George Clinton and Canton’s The O’Jays.
The segment on Billy Beck will be taped at The Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St., beginning at 10 a.m. Beck has been a musician and associate minister of music at the church since 2000.
Beck co-authored a string of million-sellers and hits for the Ohio Players in the ’70s, including “Fire, “Love Rollercoaster” and “Sweet Sticky Thing.” He attended Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. Today, Beck continues to tour with the group and has released a new solo CD titled “Memoirs of a Player,” featuring Ohio Players guitarist Leroy “Sugarfoot” Bonner.
