Middle school bands perform holiday concert


The Boardman middle schools will present a seventh and eighth-grade band holiday concert featuring the Center and Glenwood jazz ensemble Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center.

This concert will showcase the combined efforts of Boardman Center and Glenwood Middle School band programs.

The concert will open with the jazz ensemble. Many students are featured in improvisation solos in various musical styles from both Center and Glenwood Middle School.

Next, the seventh-grade band will perform holiday favorites, including “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Ukrainian Bell Carol.” The seventh-grade band will also perform the popular arrangements of “Sweet Caroline,” “Summer Nights” and “Gimme Some Lovin.”

The concert concludes with the eighth-grade band opening with “Quintus” and “Legend of Queen Anne’s Revenge” to showcase the band’s hard work since the start of the school year. Popular selections include “Sway” as recorded by Michael Buble and “Second Chance” as performed by Shinedown.

To end the concert, the bands will ask the audience to participate in the “Christmas Pop Sing-A-Long.”

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and senior citizens and children 10 and under get in free. Donations will be accepted at the door.
